In February, I blogged about the first of the (DW)2 workshops , which are held in partnership with Diverseworks, The Houston Arts Alliance, Leveraging Investments in Creativity, and Creative Capital.
I was absent from the introduction to the Artist Cohort, as I was in Brooklyn for the artist talk at the Textile Arts Center group show "Missing/Missed".
I have attended all of the workshops though and have met with my group mentor, Dixie Friend Gay, at her Heights Studio.
Since my first blog post, the workshops have spanned Stragetic Planning II, Written Communication, and Budgeting and Finance. I feel very privileged to have been selected, as not only is my knowledge of the "business of art" increasing, but I am put into direct contact with an extremely diverse group of artists and am able to build a relationship with a mentor. This is a much-needed break from my increasingly insular studio practice and self-education.
In a few hours I will attend the next workshop on Marketing, which will be hosted at one of my favorite Houston spaces Caroline Collective.
