"Wayfarer" - exhibition of new drawings and collage by Regina Agu

About the artwork:
“Wayfarer” explores the movement of people and boundaries.

In my collage pieces, I reference photos and memories of my travels to Nigeria by drawing images of women (usually relatives) and creating head-wraps using popular food packaging materials. I use these exported materials, which I purchase here in Houston, as a metaphor for the exporting of beauty standards, identity and people across national borders.

The larger graphite drawings shown here are layers of present-day neighborhood decay, futuristic development scenarios, and the shifting of physical and personal boundaries.

  1. This sounds like an amazing show. Too bad I don't live in Houston; would have loved to see this in person.
