Over the past couple of weeks I've been going full steam ahead with several projects, including "Extended Drawing" at labotanica, which closed on Jun 19th, which included me executing a large scale drawing on the wall of the space. I also made a sudden move into a new apartment/art studio loft on the edge of Downtown Houston.
My landlord at my old apartment was very flexible with me and made the process as smooth as possible on their end, and I was fortunate in that I didn't have to pay any fees to move without having given the required 30 day notice. The move was still extremely difficult, in that I had essentially 4 days to pack up my 2 bedroom apartment and all my art studio supplies and move into my new place to avoid penalties and paying rent in both spaces. That's when I learned just how much crap had accumulated in my 2 bedroom apartment over the course of the past 3 years.
I donated a ton of clothes, made countless trips to the recycling center, and posted a listing of "free stuff" on craigslist that included bookshelves, and old microwave, a small TV, and some knick-knacks. Within 30 mins of me posting on craigslist about the items that I placed out by the dumpster across the street, everything was gone.
The heat that week was blistering. Without the help of my brother (who is staying with me) making countless car trips and loading/unloading, I would have given up. When all the heavy items were unloaded from the rented U-Haul, I collapsed and slept the whole day. I still had to go back to my old apartment and clean, but we managed to get everything done. I handed in my keys on time.
Between moving, continuing my daily drawings, working on new projects including a new series of watercolors in my still unpacked studio, and then trying to keep my social media profiles constantly updated for the show, I needed to focus. I've continued to create, but I did need to retreat offline for a bit. I'm easing back into things now.
